New Year: Your Best Chapter Yet Starts Now
By Jacque Genovese
If you're like me, every new year feels a bit like turning the page in a great book: you may not know what’s coming next, but you’re excited to see how the story unfolds. The great thing about being where you are now is that you already know your main character—you! It's not about starting over; it’s about stepping into a new chapter that’s entirely yours to write. Let's make this one filled with purpose, laughter, connection, and maybe even a little adventure.
January is the perfect time for a gentle reset—not a total rewrite. Maybe that means taking a 30-minute walk daily (maybe longer), or drinking more water. Small changes can add up, and who doesn't love that idea.
Having great health is always at the top of my list, and can be on yours, too. Think nourish. Add color to your plate—bright berries, leafy greens, hearty grains—and listen to what your body’s asking for. Pick an exercise that makes you smile, not sweat (unless you really love that!). There are so many options, like Pilates (one of my faves), yoga, tai chi, or walking around the neighborhood, that are easy on the joints and great for the mind and body.
And lest we forget our mental well-being. Maybe this is the year you finally join a book club (or start your own), take a painting class, or dust off the guitar in the corner. Hobbies keep us sharp and connected—and connection is one of the best ways to keep a positive attitude.
Your finances might also appreciate a refresh. Schedule an appointment with your financial advisor. Take a peek at your subscriptions (do you really need six streaming services?). Make sure you're spending supports your disposable income so you can enjoy all the things you want to do, like traveling (such as my recent trip to Poland), getting together for family vacations, or tackling a remodel in your home.
Another thing I like to do is clear clutter. Letting go of clothes you haven't worn for over two years can be exciting (it's like gaining 20 years). And baggage from old worries or projects you didn't complete, they go, too. You’ll be amazed at how light life feels when you make space for what’s next.
Remember, the “new you” isn’t about becoming someone else—it’s about rediscovering what already makes you wonderful. So here’s to doing 2026 your way: one joy-filled page at a time.
